Citizens Advice Havant
Empowering young people and adults to be great with money.
Providing a meaningful financial capability education for children and young people.
Helping adults to talk about money and giving them the confidence to make changes.
And when those changes are too great to make alone, we can offer the support of our specialist team at Citizens Advice Havant. VIDEO
Since December 2014 our Schools Financial Capability Programme has reached 7,000 students in Hampshire. It has been designed to develop understanding and awareness in children, allowing greater financial independence, reducing the risk of debt problems and improving opportunities as they grow.
The success of our project can be attributed to engaging a team of qualified teachers who have the flair and passion to engage children and young people, dedicated volunteers to support us and the backing of the Citizens Advice Havant brand, established in 1963.
Work Out Your Money has a Programme for Schools which has been awarded the Financial Education Quality Mark and is mapped to the current curriculum. This programme has been developed in consultation with teachers, is engaging and relevant for young people and clearly written and easy to use.
Our personal finance workshops in schools start in Year 4 exploring how we use money and the cost of everyday items. Our Primary School Programme explores what we can do with our money, planting the seed for the need to save for the future.
This leads to our Secondary School Programme where we think more about how we spend our money and calculate how much our savings can grow. Children then make that important link to how much the big things in life will cost and how their savings can help meet their aspirations.
We also help students understand payslips, with activities and discussions which explain where our taxes are spent. This important life skill is at a timely stage in their life when they are starting to work part-time.
