METRO Charity The METRO Schools Programme offers in-school one-to-one counselling, as well as a bespoke suite of staff training sessions and student workshops. Our specialist subjects include; Gender and Sexuality (including Trans), Sexual Health, Equalities, Inclusivity, Intersectionality, Listening Skills, and many more.
VIDEO Schools Counselling
We will provide counselling, anchored in a Person Centered model but using Solution Focused Brief Therapy tools to focus the work and in a short time achieve long lasting change. Counselling will be goal orientated and contracted to 12 weeks with extensions, if needed.
Schools can purchase a counselor to deliver 5 counselling sessions a day, in school from upwards of 1 day a week. On 3+ day packages, an additional in-school counselor can be requested. Purchasing a 3+ day counselling packages, also comes with one full day (3 X 1.5 hours) of staff training, from our multiple training headlines.
Schools Homophobic Biphobic and Transphobic (HBT) Anti-Bullying Package
Staff Training:
Our introduction training is 1.5 hours, covering SOGI awareness, tackling HBT language, policy, curriculum, safeguarding and forward planning. Our training carries the PSHE Association Quality Mark and is in the process of being CPD accredited.
Student Engagement:
Workshops and assemblies for students. Most schools choose to have an introductory whole school assembly in the morning, then follow-up workshops with different year groups.
We provide workshops tailored for specific year groups and key stages, all of which hold the PSHE Association Quality Mark. Depending on the age group, we cover a wide range of topics such as:
Loving and respectful relationships
Different families
Smashing gender stereotypes
Acceptance and Pride
LGBT+ history and culture
Standing against HBT bullying and language
Intersectionality
Senior Leadership Team Support:
Our fee includes initially reviewing all policies and school marketing materials in advance and, at the follow-up meeting, providing feedback and guidance on its inclusivity. We will then work toward supporting policy and curriculum development, ultimately supporting the delivery of schools’ ambitions towards inclusivity and equality.
Ongoing Professional Support (provided with the package)
METRO will continue to support your school after your work with us on the programme. This could include phone support if, for example, a school finds themselves needing support after a student discloses that they are trans, or to mediate with parents.
Schools Relationships and Sex Education Package
Staff Training:
Our introduction training is 1.5 hours and has either a primary or secondary focus. The training will include guidelines around RSE in either setting, required subject knowledge, tips on how to teach RSE confidently, distancing techniques, answering difficult questions, safeguarding, and more. With the package we will include one of the following (additional 1.5 hours combined or separate) though more can be purchased £450 per session:
Ensuring your RSE is LGBT+ inclusive
Empowering young girls through effective RSE
Addressing pornography and online safety
RSE from a religious and cultural perspective
Working with parents to develop your RSE policy
Student Engagement:
We provide workshops tailored for specific year groups and key stages, based on our long history working in sexual and reproductive health. Our workshops follow current draft guidance from the Department of Education and hold the PSHE Association Quality Mark.

Senior Leadership Team Support:
Our fee includes reviewing your school’s Relationships and Sex Education policy and curriculum and ensuring it meets new requirements. Part of this discussion will be ensuring that RSE curriculum and policy is inclusive and meaningful to all students. At the follow up meeting with SLT or relevant Lead (e.g. PSHE Lead) METRO will track progress and provide any additional support or advice.
